Dipping back into this original series I first launched a decade ago, I am finding it is both a fascinating time capsule and a deeply meaningful map to the future.
Read on On & Up.
Looking back upon the years before I finally decided to publish the first Rare Air episode, Beth and I were very much caught up in living life and raising kids. Married in 1992, we had thoughtfully postponed that phase. Throughout our history together, the creative dreams I carried along – largely described by the terms author and filmmaker – were a recurring subject. A lot of “after hours” diligence had been applied over the years, and in 2011, I surprised myself by completing two big personal writing projects. Those were featured in my 2023 poetic memoir, “Arc of the Poet.”
The years between having kids (Amelia was born in 2001) and Arc of the Poet’s publication were mostly about work for us all, with a majority of the highlights coming from our vacation getaways. Building this series to showcase and guide the vacation highlights is another multifaceted creative gift. A main takeaway is realizing the awesomeness those trips, and their importance to us in life’s big picture.
The timeline being covered at this moment through new Rare Air episodes traces back to July of 2019. On through episode 60, the series will be featuring video shot – and words dedicated to – that phenomenal week-long trip, now five and a half years past. Back then – and as mentioned, many times before and since – I was obsessing over next-level dreams.
As time marches on, the chase continues. Thanks for your interest, as always. Please return soon for more Rare Air.
